HOSEPIPE BAN
Thames Water have announced that a Hosepipe Ban will be in force with effect from Wednesday 24th August.
Contrary to what may have been the rules back in the mists of time we are certainly not exempted from the ban and will be abiding by the legal requirements of the Temporary Use Ban (TUB) in place.
We will leave you to read through the full rules online (thameswater.co.uk) or in the media if you wish, but in short you must not use a hosepipe to water your plants in your home, garden, or allotment.
In addition you may not use your hosepipe to fill up a water butt or other container.
The water company will be able, if they wish, to take legal action against offenders which includes individuals on our site.
There is one exemption which may be relevant to you.
If the plot-holder (the actual tenant - not other friends, family members etc.) is a ‘Blue Badge Holder’ or is on the Thames Water Company’s ‘Special Priority List’ then they are personally exempt.
If that applies to you then you will be able to use a hosepipe, just on your own plot, but only if you have prior permission from the Committee. In that instance please apply in writing or separate email (awslg.ltd@gmail.com) asap including evidence of your exemption status.
In the (hopefully, unlikely) event that there is a breach of these rules then the plot-holder concerned will be given a formal warning in writing. Any subsequent infringement will result in that plot-holder having their tenancy terminated.
The Ground Steward will be making frequent additional patrols around the site at varying times of day to detect any leaks so that they may be repaired promptly. If you find a water leak then please notify him asap on 07738 180944.
We are truly sorry that we all have to abide by these restrictions and sincerely hope that we can soon get back to normal.
