September 2018

There have been two themes running through the meadow this summer, firstly the drought has meant regular watering of the flower beds where over two hundred and fifty bedding plants are flourishing, displaying an impressive array of colours and textures Secondly, due to the long period of sunshine we have seen an explosion in the number of butterflies, the most since the project began in 2011. All is not well with the grasses which have shown signs of stress, echoing the 1976 summer. However recent rains may well have rescued the situation as the regreening of our parched meadow and the wider countryside should eliminate the fears of a drought fuelled butterfly crash next year.
