Celebrating 100 Years of Croydon Allotments

CFAGS (Croydon Federation of Allotment and Garden Societies) will be celebrating 100 years of Croydon allotments here on our site and invites everyone to join the fun:

  • BBQ from 12 till 2.00
  • plant stall
  • jams, preserves and chutney stall
  • vegetable cake competition (recipe below)
  • chutney competition
  • quizzes
  • activities for children
  • light refreshments

Tickets are £1.00 per person, which include a burger or hot dog and entry into a raffle. Tickets are on sale in the Office (Saturday 10:30 to 12:00) or reply to this email to reserve yours.

Chocolate Beetroot Cake


Ingredients

250g well-drained, cooked beetroots, pureed
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
300g caster sugar
250ml vegetable oil
3 eggs
225g self raising flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons drinking chocolate powder


Method

Prep:20min_Cook:40min_Ready in:60min

Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4. Grease and flour one 25x25 cm (10x10 in) or similar sized baking tin.
In a large bowl, combine pureed beetroots, eggs, vanilla, oil and sugar. Mix with an electric mixer on low speed until well combined.
In a separate bowl, mix together self raising flour, salt and drinking chocolate. Add to the creamed mixture, beating together well. Pour batter into prepared tin.
Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until done. Cool and dust with icing sugar.
