Site, Soil and Preparation
Any moist moderately fertile soil in a sheltered shady spot is preferred. Rocket plants do not like hot sun.
Indoor Sowing
Rocket is grown direct outdoors.
Outdoor Sowing
When the soil begins to warm in spring sow seeds thinly in a prepared bed, in 12mm (1/2in) deep drills with rows spaced 200mm (8in) apart. Repeated sowings will provide a continous crop.
Thinning
As the seedlings develop 2 true leaves or more that are 50mm (2in) long, start to thin them out by picking and using in salads.
Transplanting
Rocket grown direct outdoors do not need transplanting.
Care
Rocket prefers a moist soil; water well in periods of hot dry weather.
Harvest
Plants can be grown as cut and come again crops. Pick leaves whilst they are young and tender; as long as some leaves remain on the plants they will develop new growth.
