Croydon Local Plan Update, May 2017
At a hearing on May 23rd with the Government Planning Inspector reviewing Croydon’s future housing proposals, the rich biodiversity of the field and the approximately 380 plots was promoted as part of the important green wildlife corridor or chain between Hutchinson’s Bank Local Nature Reserve and South Norwood Country Park LNR in the centre of which our site is a ‘stepping stone’ or ‘hotspot’ for insect breeding. This chain would be broken if the allotments were not there. Following this submission, Thomson Ecology are to conduct a survey of our site before August, and Malcolm is very hopeful we will receive the designation of Site of Borough Importance Grade 1 (within the category of Site of Nature Conservancy Interest). This would significantly strengthen our case against any potential development.
