Plotting Our Path

1950-1951

The war damage claim was finally completed thanks to the tireless efforts of Mr Leonard Burke. Work began on reinstating the plots that had been affected. The Society won 2nd prize in the Walker cup conducted by the council. There were 49 competitors. Petty pilfering of crops was reported and members were advised to lock the gates at all times as we are encouraged to do so now. So nothing much has changed in 50 odd years. Rationing of most foodstuffs still existed then so one could argue that someone who was hungry had greater motivation to steal but it still remains inexcusable to take produce from a plot that is not yours and cruel to the person who has lavished care on nurturing their fruit and vegetables.
